"IMPACT'S TRASH IS WWE'S TREASURE" Behind The Barricade Blog: NT

Over this past weekend news officially broke of Mick Foley asking for his release from Impact Wrestling/TNA due to what can be described as “creative differences.” This is supported (although with pro wrestling & TNA that could be a work) by “The Network” storyline being discontinued as Foley was fired on Thursday.

When I heard of this news I was completely baffled by yet another poor decision from the administration in Impact Wrestling. According to Foley he “pushed hard for changes” he felt would benefit Impact and was rebuffed by management.

One could speculate what the suggestions were by Foley, (maybe perhaps the return of the 6 sided ring?) but regardless he felt strong enough about these ideas and the direction the company should go enough to ask for his release when his opinions were deemed inferior or illogical by the powers that be.

Foley has been in my opinion a staple in TNA for the past few years since he left the WWE and has contributed a hell of a lot more than the likes of Hogan & Bischoff. I remember as recently as a year ago (or sometime around then) Foley once again sacrificing his body and getting beat down by Ric Flair for the sake of an arguably meaningless feud just for some extra ratings to attempt to help the brand.

Foley was making headway as the “Network Consultant” for Spike TV in the Immortal storyline and was one of the few “legendary” faces that we enjoyed seeing on TV every week. While one company may consider him unusable another can find him just that.

As the old adage goes “one teams trash is another’s treasure” this holds true to the Foley situation as it offers the WWE a golden opportunity. Foley is one of the few on-air personalities who can still be very over as a pure baby face. If WWE insists on having at least 1 face GM (that being Teddy Long) I would argue that Foley is that man!

We have all seen how Foley excelled as the commissioner for a period of time and he has continued that momentum in TNA over the past few years. Vince would be justified in signing Foley to replace a stale GM in Teddy Long on Smackdown who generates little to no fan reaction (sorry, playa you just don’t cut it!).

If Vince remains committed to Long on Smackdown. The Anonymous Raw GM position is another solid out in which to place Foley. Creative could stick with the true to life storylines, like they have been doing with Kharma, and claim that potentially due to contractual obligations or something along those lines Foley could not reveal his true identity until the point in time when he makes his triumphant return.

Finally, if creative doesn’t see him as a viable GM for the time being the most logical move is to replace Booker T on Smack down’s announce team with Foley. Foley, having already amassed a great amount of experience could easily come in and clean up the mess that is the Smackdown Announce team.

The possibilities for Foley in the WWE are endless and undoubtedly should be the grounds for Foley’s return. We’ll continue to wait for the truth to come out from both sides as to why Impact Wrestling and Mick Foley parted ways, but as I said before Impact's trash is the WWE’s treasure.

5 Cool Minutes with Carlito:  Nick Teodoro

Hundreds of eager wrestling fans packed the Brick Elks Lodge in a sold out showcase featuring the best up and coming wrestlers of the National Wrestling Superstars Promotion.

The show was fast paced featuring a number of high flyers and wrestling brawlers including former WWE star Carlos "Carlito" Colon who was making a rare jersey shore and independent wrestling appearance.

"I never did Indies before, I worked for my dad and WWE so this all new to me," said Carlito. Carlito is known for his cocky apple spitting antics and his high level of diverse wrestling ability by fans all around the world.

Carlito acknowledges that part of his character is based off of his personality.  "My friends would say that the way I act on tv is like when I am drunk," he jokingly said.  "I consider myself a nice guy, its my way to vent," he added.

Carlito is a 2nd generation wrestling superstar who grew up in Puerto Rico surrounded by the business and got his start in his fathers' wrestling promotion the World Wrestling Council.

"Being in Puerto Rico was cool because it was like a melting pot, we got wrestlers from Japan, Mexico, the States, [and] Puerto Rico, so I got to see every mix," he said. "That's why my style takes a little bit of everybody, a little bit of brawling, a little bit of high flying, a little hardcore, more or less maneuver different styles and combine them," he added.

Colon, through blending a number of these styles was able to create his famously known finishing move "The Backstabber". "We were just messing around one day because they gave [the playmaker/overdrive] to a lot of guys, not that many people could take it, its a terrible move" he said.

"I started doing The Backstabber not as a finisher, just as a move and I remember [John] Cena came up to me and said 'Man that's a great move, I would take that as a finisher anytime' so I said let me try it out and I started using it," he said. "I never covered people [afterwards], I used to hit it and let it breathe because it looked pretty good, so eventually I just evolved and started using that," he added.

John Cena was an integral part to the evolution of Carlito's character as he first came on the the WWE scene and entered a program with Cena. "[People] think that it helped me out but really it kind of put a big hump on my back because everybody saw it as 'oh they're shoving the new guy down everybody's throat," he said. "It gave me good [exposure] but after that I had to prove myself, so I had to work harder after that," he added.

It was at this time that the interview was cut short due to the show's run through. While it is unknown whether Carlito will return to the WWE, go to TNA or elsewhere it is expected he will continue to work from time to time with his fathers promotion the WWC. "I go back from time to time to help out," he added.
